The defendant-appellant, Poeschl Brothers, Inc., was the principal contractor for the removal and replacement of deteriorated sidewalks, curbs and gutters in an area on the northeast side of the city of Milwaukee. The area included East Webster street between North Prospect and North Stowell avenues. Poeschl Brothers subcontracted the concrete removal work to the Major Grading Corporation, but did the concrete replacement work itself. The entire curb and gutter was removed in the block in question and intermittent blocks or squares of sidewalk were removed and were to be replaced.
